Muddy bicycle racer raises arms in victory

Wout Van Aert won the UCI Cyclocross World Championship on Sunday, his second consecutive victory at the sport’s most prestigious event. The Belgian athlete, sponsored by Felt Bicycles, has enjoyed a stellar 2016-2017 racing season with highlights including other repeat victories at the Belgian National Championship and the overall UCI World Cup series title.

Sunday’s Elite Men’s event saw one of the most talented fields in Cyclocross World Championship history line up at the start of the event in Bieles, Luxembourg. It featured a host of other Felt athletes including Van Aert’s Crelan-Charles teammates Tim Merlier of Belgium and Stan Godrie of the Netherlands, as well as Swiss stars Nicola Rohrbach and Simon Zahner, any of whom could have taken victory on the tough, technical racecourse in Bieles.

“Everyone at Felt Bicycles is incredibly proud of Wout’s accomplishment, not only for winning this year’s World Championships, but also for the incredible season he’s had,” says company founder, Jim Felt. “Wout’s a tremendous ambassador for the sport and for our brand. He has monumental talent on the bike, which is clear from his World Cup wins including domination at Cross Vegas the past two years, several Superprestige wins, multiple national championships and, of course, world championships at both the Elite and U-23 levels. But most importantly, Wout is a true professional. We can’t wait to see his career continue to progress over the coming years.”

With his second rainbow jersey in two years, Wout Van Aert has already solidified his position as one of the all-time greats of the sport at the young age of 22. Also part of the Felt-powered Veranda’s Willems-Crelan pro continental road cycling team for the 2017 season, Van Aert’s talent is immense, and his potential seemingly limitless. Look for Van Aert to contest countless more race wins throughout the coming year.
